Care Guide

Home Maintenence
You will receive a care guide after your first appointment, but here, we will go over more specific home maintenance and product recommendations
wash Day
• Please wait at least 48 hours after your first installation for shampoo your new extensions.
• Make sure to always brush out and detangle your hair before you shampoo.
* I will provide you with a hair brush in your welcome kit provided in your welcome kit
• Wash hair 2-3 times a week at most, but no less than every 3-4 days.
• Avoid using shampoos and conditioners with sulfates or proteins in them, because these ingredients may dry out or strip your extensions prematurely.
* I recommend starting with the BOB ID Shampoo & Conditioner or BOB Hi Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner for those with naturally thicker and dryer hair.

Your extensions can only be guaranteed while using professional products that were recommended by your stylist.
Brushing
• To ensure there is no snagging on your wefts or beads, it is recommended to hold your hair at the point of contact of your extensions and brush from the ends up to make sure not to create any unwanted knots in the hair
• When you hit a snag, make sure to gently work it out with your brush or fingers to prevent damaging your extensions.
• Use a recommended boar bristle brush or brush at least 2-3 times daily to prevent tangling and matting
• At night, always ensure that your connection points at the wefts and beads are fully dry before going to bed
• Loosely braid your hair or wear it in a low , loose bun.
• Wear a satin bonnet and/or use a satin pillowcase.
Styling
• Make sure to brush your hair and apply hair oil from the ends up 2-3 times a day. Make sure to gently work your way through any snags and not to pull on your extensions while brushing (I recommend GM Reverie Ever Recovery Hair Oil).
• Avoid getting heat from a styling iron directly on the beads and wefts. It is recommended to begin your pass right below the weft & beads.
• Make sure to use a wet heat protectant before blow drying but also use a dry heat protectant every time you style your hair with heat
* I recommend using Setspray from Cult + King for both before and after blow drying, as well as a light finishing spray.
• Make sure to only apply oils to your hair AFTER styling because they can literally fry your hair (think of it like frying oil in a pan)! exceptions would be oils that say that they have a heat protectant in them, such as the GM Reverie Ever Recovery Hair Oil.
Swim, Sun & Extecise
• Always make sure to braid your hair or wear in a low pony before swimming or any physical activity to avoid tangling and matting
• Swimming in chlorine or salt water is not recommended, but if you must, thoroughly wet hair with water from the shower or tap first and saturate with a recommended leave-in conditioner and/or uv protectant before entering water with salt or chlorine. This helps fill your hair with “good” water so that it absorbs less of the “bad water.”
It is recommended to wear a hat and use product with UV protection in them when spending prolonged periods in the sun (we recommend R+Co Suncatcher). The sun will fade your hair color including the color in your extensions over time.
• Many sunscreens contain an ingredient called avobenzone that causes a chemical reaction in extension hair, that often results in it turning pink or orange, and not in a cute way! This can be very hard to remove and can damage the extension hair in the process. To avoid this reaction, make sure to read the ingredient labels of your sunscreen and avoid getting it in your hair (we recommend Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen or ones specifically labeled for use with hair extensions). For face spf, we like Herbivore Starseed Sheer Glow Mineral Sunscreen. Yes, facial spf can also contain avobenzone!
Before Bed...
Before you go to bed, make sure to put your hair in a braid or loose pony tail. It is highly recommended to wear a satin bonnet and/or have a satin pillow case to avoid breakage that is caused by traction from normal pillowcases. This will also prolong the wear time of your extensions by keeping them healthier and looking better for longer. NEVER go to bed with wet or damp extensions and especially care to try at the scalp to avoid matting, mildew and/or build up.
